Sixteen Going On Twenty-Six

Sixteen years ago last Friday me and Martha were married...just across the lake here, in my parents back yard. That photo was taken the night before.*

There's two ways I could go about this...

a) I could be sentimental -there's good reason for this approach. I love Martha deeply, for good reasons other than the obvious...and there couldn't be a better mother to our son.

b) I could gripe. There's good reason for that track too. We should be celebrating our 25th anniversary this year. We met when we were 15. I was ready right then...I knew it. We could have arranged it but, she's stubborn...it took ten years of intense psychological warfare to convince her to accept the inevitable.

(Blake would be like at least 15 and he'd be working and well into paying us back for the cost of his birth, tuition, etc.)

All you really need to know is that once I cut her off (let that sink in...she was cut off...from this)...she got her cap turned around, got her mind right...and hunted me down. Some of the more surly among you have been temporarily banned from these pages...you know how she was feeling. It hurt me more than it hurt her...but, it was necessary.

Ha.

Our song...

for no other reason than I'd just bought the single, before she'd come to visit me in Germany, and it was the only CD in my friend's borrowed car. I still like that album and now that I know one of you coughgronmarkcough prefers JJ Cale to Skynrd...and another of you coughsingingbearcough owns Asia albums....I refuse to make excuses.

That's enough of my personal business nosies.

Next up...Yankees at Cracker Barrel.

*Look at the glow in my eyes...I have nothing but bad intentions.

  1. Well gosh, there's a familiar story. Except if the F-word bragged in public about me "getting my head right" he might lose his.

  2. Happy anniversary, whichever way you're counting.
    .
(Singing Bear, Asia? ELP, naturally. Early Genesis, absolutely. Yes, erm....yes! But Asia? I think we should be told.)

    1. Thank you sir and welcome aboard.

He never actually said he owned Asia records but he did say he was obsessed so one could logically infer...he definitely owns Asia vinyl and cherishes them as some of his most prized possessions.

    2. No way! Asia = bollocks. You knows it. Me? Van der Graaf Gen, Gentle Giant, Focus, Yes and others but NEVER Asia.

    3. Perhaps 'Prog' is lost in translation? Note the subtleties.

    4. Are you saying my charge is flimsy...fanciful even...based on little more than a vague recollection of album covers with dragons on them...that my understanding of the genre may be incomplete?...that you aren't air rocking the keytar?
I should be ashamed of myself.

  3. Oh yes, as DPJ says, a familiar story. The dance of love? I was very young too, but the Guitar Terrorist had six years on me, as well as his sites. "Too old for me" I thought, "but..." I led him such a merry dance that he very nearly gave up, at least until I was legal ;-)
    Just call us coquettes.

Happy anniversary to you both for last Fri! Sweet pics too.

    1. Or we could just call y'all devious and hard headed.

  4. As I heard a Yankee say earlier this week, who was desperately trying to grasp the Southern Linguistics surroundering her, thank "all y'all" for the kind words. C - not only a coquette, I am off the charts stubborn. I know that I am stubborn, becasue I just took a personality test at work that has confirmed this fun little fact. Erik had his work cut out for him between the stubborness and my language of choice, sarcasm. He got onto me last night because I had only read his blog post, not commented. I was taking my time, thinking about it, trying not to be sarcastic in my response. There is no doubt we are a perfect fit in marriage, and best friends to boot. I appreciate he left out his version of "our story." He knows better than that. I forgot to tell Erik that my personality test revealed that I hate working with computers. So, it is a testament to my love for him that I made this darn post. I hope you are pleased, Mr. Bartlam. Love, Martha

    1. While we're here I has a good thing written for your dancing post...which was eaten by the phone. It talked about frying eggs and...it was really involved.
