Crows Don't Smoke

Flimsy Cups: Biographical Tid Bit #2 Installment 3: Crows don't stop off in Belfast on their way from Dingle to Dublin...but crows don't need money for cigarettes do they? I did...and ...

  1. Oh - all the way to Belfast just to get some cash! Good job the bank wasn't on The Falls Road. Starting to turn into a classic comic caper, methinks. Yes, Northern Ireland is, somewhat controversially, a different country. You'd think they could sort out a unified travel system, though, wouldn't you?

    1. If you had asked me before I got on that train I could have told you...why yes I'm going to a different country now...sorta...Ulster or maybe I shouldn't call it that down here...Northern Ireland...and I have no opinion on the status of it's...please I just want my money. :)
Furthermore, consider my own warped thinking...I needed a Barclays bank...I needed to be in the UK. DUH.
Today this wouldn't even be an issue, as far as I know, ATMs will take any card you got...and charge you for the service.

  2. As SB says, this is starting to turn into a classic comic caper... I feel more twists and turns are about to happen...
No wonder it's confusing, though. Here we are in the United Kingdom, also known as the British Isles, Britain, Great Britain even... which comprises England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland... but is also two separate islands comprising the former on one island and Northern Ireland and Eire, also known as the Republic of Ireland or Southern Ireland. together on the other, which is known as a land mass as just Ireland. Oh and then don't forget the Channel Islands, which we share with France.... and the Isle of Man..which is between England and Ireland and which is part of Britain and has its own flag.

At least I *think* that's how it is... I am quite prepared to be corrected!

    2. ... and I got myself so confused just working that out that I forgot to actually make the point about Eire not being in the UK...
I think we need pie charts.

    3. You know I had a pretty good grip on this stuff and then after my studies I was I really thought I had it down but, it hasn't been that long since I learned of how independent some of the islands were.

It's great though...to have recognition for separate groups and cultures like that. The U.S. still has some territories like Puerto Rico that are quasi independent dependencies. I don't know how that happened since the U.S. has never been an imperialist...coughbullshitcough!
